Feasibility Study |
The primary stage in the implementation of
any idea of a project is to establish it's feasibility. The
feasibility of any project does not necessarily mean only
financial feasibility but all aspects of timely completion of the
project and it's successful operation on a profitable basis for
years to come. This includes locational feasibility, manpower
feasibility, technological feasibility, process feasibility and
last but not the least, environmental feasibility.
Grey Engineering Consultants (GECON), armed with its' two decades
of experience in technical advisory services is fully equipped to
throw light on all these aspects to determine the overall
feasibility of the project. We have on our panel experts drawn
from prestigious institutions who have complete command on their
subject and the ability to weigh the pros and cons of a particular
project for various feasibility parameters. |
Layout Finalisation |
The layout of the various plant and
machineries and the entire auxiliary systems is vital for smooth
and uninterrupted operation of the plant. The layout should be so
chosen that the flow of raw material, semi-finished goods and the
finished goods is conducive to the requirements of the process. As
a result of having completed numerous projects, GECON specializes
in layout preparation and finalization. These include finalization
of the location and orientation of the main plant & machinery as
well as that of the auxiliaries. Input of the machinery
manufacturers is imperative in any such finalization process.
However GECON on the basis of it's past experience in diversified
project size and location, is in a formidable position to come out
with the most balanced layout which ensures unhindered flow of
men, material and methods in the main shed as well as most
optimized location of the auxiliaries and utilities like power
sub-station, water complex, boiler house, compressed air, fuel
gas, generator sets, effluent treatment plants, storage yards,
etc. so as to minimize their distance from the usage point. This
ensures maximum utilization of the available sources at the
minimum costs.
GECON can help customers in layout finalization if their project
falls into one of the following categories: - |
-
Green field startup operation
-
Addition of a new process to an existing
facility
-
Repurposing or overhauling an existing
facility
-
Modification of an existing process
-
Integration of a major piece of equipment
to an existing process
-
Replacement of a major component on an
existing process

Design & Engineering |
The design and detailed engineering
capabilities is the forte of GECON. The design team of GECON is a
judicious mix of experience as well as youth which ensures a
reliable source of new ideas backed by it's technical viability.
The design office is equipped with the latest computers and
printing facilities like A0 size printers for making color prints.
The design office is manned by seasoned design engineers who have
spent decades in designing equipments as well as systems for the
customer's diversified needs. The designing capability is
augmented by a battery of young and middle level engineers who
travel extensively gathering new ideas and discussing the same
with the experienced hands to arrive at a final decision.
GECON has in it's reference section more than 5000 drawings,
manuals, catalogs and technical literature gathered over years of
it's successful operation. The design office has a well-equipped
archives and we are constantly evolving and upgrading ourselves by
attending conferences and fairs. This helps the customers by way
of getting the most updated knowledge and technology in both
ferrous and non-ferrous industry. |
Project Management |
A crucial aspect of any project is the
management of the whole affair with cooperation of the customer's
project team. GECON provides assistance in managing the whole
project in a phased and systematic manner so as to avoid any
confusion and keep the project on the right path. This involves
careful sequencing of the events in a way so that the monitoring
becomes easy and transparent. This eliminates the risk of any
activity, which may remain hidden and crop at the most crucial
period thereby causing irritating delays and unwanted alteration
in project plan. The critical activities are monitored closely
with the peripheral activities being completed before hand.
|
Cost Estimates & Control |
Any project involves approaching the
financial institutions for financing the project apart from the
own sources of funds of the promoter. Under such circumstances it
is necessary that a tentative estimate of the cost of project with
the main plant & machinery and auxiliaries, apart from the
financial costs, which are worked out by the customer himself, be
presented to the banker to decide the amount of financing
required. However it is futile to go though the entire exercise of
preparing detailed technical specifications, bill of material and
quantities, delivery schedules and other similar activities to
arrive at the cost estimates. It is here that the years of
accumulated experience of GECON comes in. GECON maintains constant
rapport with suppliers of various plants & machinery to keep
updated about both the latest technologies and also the price of
such items. We provide the budgetary prices for all the main
components of the project to arrive at a tentative project cost
estimate for submission to the bankers to take preliminary consent
and willingness to finance the project. After obtaining the
confidence of the financial institutions, further activities for
making a detailed Techno-economic feasibility report is carried
out.
GECON also provides the customer its expertise in controlling the
cost of the project as soon as the implementation begins. GECON
has a track record of setting up the projects in the projected
cost with no or minimal cost overrun that may happen due to
unforeseen circumstances beyond our control. |
Planning & Scheduling |
The planning phase develops a concept and
translates the project into a clear vision and plan. If your
vision is clear, the team will adopt it and make decisions that
align with it. At GECON, we believe firmly that any goal is
achievable if it is broken down into organized and manageable
tasks, which become the basis for the plan. We have also found
that paying due diligence to the planning phase sets up the rest
of the project for success. Startup projects often breed
empowerment due to their dynamic nature and aggressive schedules.
All project team members must understand and be aligned with the
vision so that their individual decisions will align with the
project goals. Some other challenges and constraints that must be
overcome in this phase are as follows: -
-
Developing clear justification for the
project
-
Assembling the right project team
-
Clearly defining your project
-
Communicating the vision clearly
throughout the organization
-
Preparing the organization for change

Coordination & Supervision |
A typical rolling mill project involves
numerous vendors and other suppliers & sub-suppliers. GECON offers
it's expertise in helping the customer to decide the most suitable
vendor for the project. The decision is based on various
parameters like price, performance, references, etc. GECON
prepares an evaluation of all the short listed vendors and the
same is submitted to the project leader for his/her assessment and
final decision.
After finally deciding on various vendors for the different items
of the project, GECON maintains continuous vigil on the progress
at their end so as to meet the targeted completion date.
